Melco Crown, DreamWorks dream up resort draws

By

MANILA, Philippines—Melco Crown Philippines Resorts Corp. is collaborating with popular American animation studio DreamWorks to provide entertainment at the soon-to-be-opened City of Dreams Manila gaming resort.

DreamWorks Animation SKG Inc.—known for churning out blockbuster and award-winning animated movies such as “Shrek,” “Madagascar” and “Kung Fu Panda”—would provide City of Dreams Manila “an exciting ‘World’s First’ education concept based on … Play, Create, Learn experiences,” Melco Crown said in a media advisory ahead of the announcement of the partnership on Thursday.

Executives from DreamWorks Animation were to be flown into Manila for Thursday’s big announcement, according to the advisory.

Listed Melco Crown Philippines is a subsidiary of global gaming giant Melco Crown Entertainment Ltd., which also has existing collaborations with DreamWorks Animation at City of Dreams Macau.

The estimated 6.2-hectare City of Dreams Manila integrated resort in the Manila Bay area is being developed and will be operated by Melco Crown Philippines subsidiary MCE Leisure Philippines Corp. in partnership with the SM Group’s Belle Corp.

The resort, part of the Entertainment City gaming hub, is expected to be completed this year.
