Graft raps dismissal a vindication, says Ongpin

MANILA, Philippines—Businessman Roberto V. Ongpin said the dismissal of the graft charges filed by the Ombudsman against him was a “clear vindication” to himself as he referred to his efforts to bring in investments to the country “despite the continuing persecution by the current administration.”

“Obviously, I am happy with this development. This strengthens my belief in the integrity of the judicial process in this country,” he said.

The antigraft court Sandiganbayan dismissed the graft charges filed against Ongpin, banker Reynaldo David and other former officials of the Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP).

The charges were in relation to allegations of behest loans granted by the DBP under David’s leadership to Ongpin in 2009.—Doris C. Dumlao
