MANILA, Philippines — The Gokongwei-led food and beverage group Universal Robina Corp. grew its net profit in the quarter ending December 2013 by 25.9 percent year-on-year to P2.89 billion, largely on the growth in its branded consumer food business here and abroad.

URC expanded sales for the October to December period, the first quarter in its fiscal year 2014, by 13.1 percent year-on-year to P22.7 billion.

The Philippine branded consumer foods business was cited as the key driver for total company growth as it increased sales by 28.1 percent while international-branded consumer foods recorded a 9.1 percent growth.

Sales of non-branded consumer foods group declined by 12.7 percent for the first quarter of fiscal year 2014 due to decrease in sales volumes for sugar and feeds.
