Maynilad earmarks P7.2B for expansion of services

By

MANILA, Philippines—Maynilad Water Services Inc. is spending about P7.2 billion this year to ramp up and expand its services in southern Metro Manila and adjacent areas.

The company said the amount was meant for water and wastewater services in Parañaque, Muntinlupa and Las Piñas as well as in parts of Cavite province.

“Service expansion remains our main goal for our customers in the south,” Maynilad president and chief executive Ricky P. Vargas said in a statement.

“We hope to address the issues of deep-well dependency and minimal wastewater coverage in the area through our massive, targeted investments,” Vargas added.

Almost two-thirds of the capital expenditure is earmarked for the construction of a wastewater treatment plant in Muntinlupa and the laying of at least 50 kilometers of sewer pipelines in Parañaque and Muntinlupa.

The bulk of the remainder or P1.9 billion will be used for the extension of its primary lines—within Bacoor and Imus in Cavite and in Las Piñas, Muntinlupa and Pasay.

Maynilad will be installing secondary and tertiary pipes in Cavite and taking over water services in certain subdivisions in the province.

Some P450 million will go to the construction of additional boosters and reservoirs; P84 million to rehabilitate network facilities and reinforce its pipes in the south; and P36 million for other operations support projects.
