Flyers can get refunds–CAB

MANILA, Philippines—The Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB) reminded airline passengers whose flights were canceled during the recently scheduled airport radar maintenance in Manila that they could have their tickets refunded or rebooked, as provided for under the law.


Around 100 international and local flights were canceled at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia) due to the 30-hour maintenance procedure that started at 1 a.m. on Oct. 23.


The CAB noted that under the Air Passenger Bill of Rights, airlines are required to inform passengers of cancellations at the soonest possible time.


“Notwithstanding that, some passengers did not receive such messages,” the regulator said, as it intensified monitoring and passenger assistance at the four Naia terminals during the past two days to assist passengers.


“Affected passengers can have their tickets refunded or rebooked, while those who were already at the airport at the time of the cancellation must be given the amenities provided by the regulation,” the CAB said.


“The rights are available to the passengers even if the flight cancellation was beyond the control of the airlines,” it added.


The CAB assured the flying public that it would continue to coordinate with the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines during these trying times.
