BIR orders hospitals to withhold taxes from doctors’, medical practitioners’ pay

MANILA, Philippines — The Bureau of Internal Revenue has issued a regulation requiring hospitals to withhold taxes from income of doctors and other medical practitioners.


The BIR has set the withholding tax rate at 15 percent if the annual income of a medical practitioner exceeds P720,000, and has set it at 10 percent for income less than P720,000.


The revenue regulation, No. 14-2013, was signed by BIR Commissioner Kim Henares and Finance Secretary Cesar Purisima. It was made public on Monday via the BIR’s website.
