JAGUAR XKR-S is the first production Jaguar to enter the 300-kph supercar club.

Jaguar has joined the 300-kph club with its new XKR-S, a higher-performance version of the XK coupe. It is the first production Jaguar to enter the elite club of supercars capable of reaching that stratospheric top speed. Jaguar Philippines launched the XKR-S during an exclusive event at Opus in Resorts World Manila.

The XKR-S builds on the already impressive performance of the XKR, the supercharged version of the coupe and previously the most powerful variant of that car. Jaguar then ups the engine output by an extra 39.45 hp and 55 Nm, boosting the total to 542.46 hp and 680 Nm. The engine features state-of-the-art technology such as spray-guided gasoline direct injection, independent variable cam timing, and all-aluminum construction for lighter weight. Increased compression ratio, more efficient supercharging, and freer-flowing exhaust contribute to the surplus horsepower. The result is a 0-100 kph in just over 4.2 seconds, and a top speed of 300 kph.

Such extreme performance would require upgrades for the rest of the car as well, and Jaguar of course obliges with more powerful brakes. Large brake discs—380 mm at the front and 376 mm at the rear—as well as larger brake pads contribute to better stopping power, particularly at speeds beyond 200 kph.

The suspension likewise buckles down, with a slightly lower ride height, and increased front and rear spring rates. 20-inch Vulcan wheels and Pirelli P-Zero tires contribute to reduced unsprung mass for better handling feel. The stability control software has been revised as well to take into account the Jag’s capabilities and allow the driver more fun behind the wheel.

The exterior features new aero parts, including a new front air dam and rear spoiler. These reduce aerodynamic lift, essential when the car is traveling near its top speed.

The interior remains as luxurious as ever, with leather seats and upholstery, and aluminum trim. The seats feature heavy bolstering, with extra wings above the shoulders to hold the torso in place during heavy cornering. Both seats feature power actuation with memory function. The sound system is by famed speaker manufacturer Bowers & Wilkins.

Despite the exotic-car levels of performance, the XKR’s mission is to provide driver and passenger with all the luxury and comfort that one of its sedans can offer.
