MANILA, Philippines – On August 25, Megaworld Philippines chairman and CEO Andrew Tan became the first Filipino tycoon to take the ice bucket challenge.

In a video uploaded on YouTube, the Megaworld chairman said: “I support the important cause of the ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) Association to promote awareness about Lou Gehrig’s disease that is a threat to humanity.”

But apart from accepting the challenge, Tan will also be donating to the movement to fund its research for treatments and cure for the debilitating ailment.

And customary to the campaign, Tan nominated three more others who, as of date, have all accepted the challenge.

Steve DeKrey, President of the Asian Institute of Management

Lito Tayag, Country Head of Accenture Philippines

The Ice Bucket Challenge is a campaign spearheaded by the ALS Association to raise awareness and funds for research on amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), otherwise known as the Lou Gehrig’s disease. Recently, the association announced that donations topped $100 million in a span of one month (July 29-August 29).
