MANILA, Philippines – Revenue Commissioner Kim Henares said Friday that the Bureau of Internal Revenue would increase annual tax collection to P1.6 trillion by 2015, double that of 2010.

“The work is not yet complete. We commit to double our 2010 collections by 2015,” Henares said during the BIR’s 109th anniversary celebration.

She said the BIR was proud to have hit the P1-trillion mark in annual tax collection last year, but she said there was much room for growth.

Last year, the BIR collected P1.058 trillion, up by about 15 percent from the previous year. This, however, was short by 0.8 percent of the official target.

Finance Secretary Cesar Purisima said on the same occasion that he was challenging the BIR to hit the P2-trillion mark in annual tax collection by 2016.
